The armchair pictured is the famous Lady , designed by Marco Zanuso in 1951 and now produced by Cassina . It is one of the most iconic armchairs of modern Italian and international design, considered a manifesto of post-war modernity for its innovative approach in both form and construction technique.

Design and Style

The Lady is the expression of a new idea of comfort and modernity , introduced in the 50s:

  • Soft, flowing shapes : curved armrests that elegantly extend from the seat to the backrest.

  • Organic and sensual aesthetics , with balanced proportions and a strongly welcoming character.

  • Full but dynamic volumes , with a continuous line between seat and armrest that embraces the user.

  • The style is retro yet timeless: it fits perfectly into both modern and vintage or eclectic settings.

Materials and Structure

The Lady was also pioneering from a technical point of view: one of the first armchairs to be built with separate and modular structures , an innovative concept at the time.

  • Internal structure : made of metal and wood, with seat independent from the base and backrest.

  • Padding :

    • Backrest and armrests in polyurethane foam and polyester wadding.

    • Seat with elastic straps , feather and polyurethane padding, for elastic and deep comfort.

  • Upholstery : fabric or leather. Pictured is sage green fabric with a visible weave, giving it a refined, textured look.

  • Legs : in metal with a polished brass or chrome finish, slightly inclined outwards, they slim the structure and lift it from the ground, giving it lightness.

Approximate dimensions

  • Width : 77 cm

  • Depth : 84 cm

  • Seat height : 43 cm

  • Materials and colors : brass base, sage green fabric, code 13F1414

Compact dimensions, ideal for small spaces or contract environments.

Historical Value and Innovation

  • Presented for the first time at the IX Triennale di Milano (1951), the Lady was awarded for its modernity.

  • It is considered one of the first chairs to combine artisanal and industrial techniques.

  • It was part of Cassina's historic "I Maestri" collection and is exhibited in various design museums.

Strengths

  • Eternal design : an armchair that spans the ages without aging.

  • Enveloping and relaxed comfort .

  • A collectible icon for lovers of design and designer furniture.

  • Perfect as an accent piece in a living room, suite, study or refined lounge.
